A traditional Belizian style House with all the comforts of home.

The house is very private and peaceful, although the neighbors are not too far away. The neighborhood is residential, so you don’t have all the commotion of the rental areas. Its great to be so close to the bustling village, but then be able to escape back to the peace and quiet of the House within minutes!

We have worked over the years to convert the house into a very pleasant and comfortable setting. The main living area is upstairs with a private front porch, you can even see the Caribbean sea over the tops of the many palm trees in the yard. The two story house was originally all wooden, but a few years ago we gave it a cement first floor addition. This raised the house almost 3 feet so the house really catches the sea breeze and never gets too hot. The house has ceiling fans, a comfortable bed with a new mattress and a futon in the main living area. We remodeled the shower last year so the house has a nice new tile shower with hot water! The addition of the cement first floor made a huge difference so no creepy crawlers can get into the house. The house is cute, clean and comfortable.

The kitchen is fully equipped with all the utilities you’ll need to enjoy the awesome fruits and vegetables available at the local markets! You can live very inexpensively eating at home and you can purchase seafood at the local CoOp, or right off the fishing boats! There is everything you would want in town as far as groceries. There is great chicken and beef, a large supply of wonderful and unusual tropical produce. There is an organic chocolate factory in the neighboring village of Seine Bight, and the best beer in the world; Belikin. The original Belikin brewmaster came over from germany and his recipe remains the best lager beer you can get (I am from Oregon and I’m telling you the truth here)

The water in Placencia comes from an artesian source across the lagoon in Mango Creek. It is pure and great to drink, so there is no need to purchase water!
The yard is large and full of Almond and Palm trees. The back looks out to miles of mangroves with the mayan mountains in the background. There is a small beach in front on the canal and a little dock to park the boat. The boat we have for use to get back and forth across the canal we refer to as the “Frankenboat”. It is not a beautiful boat, but is steady and very seaworthy. Our nice fiberglass dingy was stolen one year and this boat does not get stolen, so there is no need to keep it locked up! The canal is about 50 feet in width and takes just a minute to paddle across. There are some sailboats and excursion boats going up and down the canal throughout the day so it is not advisable to swim in it (although we have many times).

The sun sets in the back of the house and the many colored sunsets illuminate the house and bedroom. There are sometimes sandflys in the rainy season, but this is easily remedied with a few mosquito coils and some citronella oil that I leave at the house. They are usually only a nuisance in the early morning and at dusk and only during the rainy season.
